The SPCA of Westchester announced that Ossining resident Adam Jeffers has been arrested after witnesses reported that the puppy - now named Ocho - had been held down and badly punched in the head, as well as kicked, by Jeffers.

Ernest Lungaro, the Director of the SPCA of Westchester’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit and investigators from the Ossining Police Department were able to obtain video (which can be viewed above), that confirmed the reports of animal cruelty, leading to Jeffers' arrest.

A medical examination by vets with the SPCA of Westchester found that Ocho was suffering from swelling on his head and abrasions to his cheek which are consistent with forceful trauma to the head region. Old wounds were also found during his examination. He is now recovering at the SPCA where he’ll be placed up for adoption.

Jeffers was arrested this week and charged with animal cruelty. No return court date has been announced.

“We are very grateful that the community spoke up and reported this horrible and senseless act of abuse,” Shannon Laukhuf, Executive Director of the SPCA of Westchester, stated. These poor animals can not speak for themselves and need our protection. Ocho will receive the veterinary care and love he needs and deserves now that he’s safe at the SPCA.”
