The incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14 when a GMC Envoy traveling southbound on the Saw Mill in the vicinity of Route 120 in New Castle struck a guard rail, went airborne and entered the northbound lanes of travel, Westchester County Police said. The Envoy then collided head-on with a Subaru Outback.

Westchester County Police responded to the scene as did the Chappaqua and Pleasantville volunteer ambulance corps. The northbound lanes of travel were shut down for more than an hour.

The driver of the Envoy is identified as Martin Goudie of Carmel.

Officers investigating the accident detected an odor of alcohol on his breath and also observed multiple empty beer cans around the driver’s seat and front passenger seat of his car, police said. They also found several small plastic bags in the vehicle containing a small amount of a powdery substance believed to be cocaine, according to police.

Goudie was transported by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he was admitted due to injuries he suffered in the collision.

Officers charged him with driving while intoxicated and criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors. He was issued appearance tickets requiring him to answer the charges in New Castle Town Court on Thursday, Nov. 21.

The driver of the Outback also suffered injuries and was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital Center in Mount Kisco, where she was treated and released. She is identified as Whitney Hill, 43, of Katonah.

Both drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles.
