AAA Honors Fairfield Officer as Traffic Safety Hero

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - With the support of his fellow officers behind him, Fairfield Police Officer Gary Wikman accepted a Traffic Safety Achievement award from AAA Northeast at a ceremony in Bridgeport.

The AAA Northeast also honored the Fairfield Police Department with a Gold Award for the department’s comprehensive traffic safety education programs that include a Citizens’ Police Academy, high school mock crash investigations, a Fairfield Explorers program, and a senior citizen Yellow Dot emergency program, among other initiatives. 

Wikman was recognized as a department-nominated Traffic Safety Hero for his efforts to expand initiatives promoting vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian safety. He has played key roles in the department’s Click it or Ticket initiative and on the DUI Saturation Patrol. 

In addition, he’s assisted the Fairfield Department of Public Works with overseeing the installation of various traffic safety signs throughout town and works daily with Town Engineering to improve roadway safety.
