Pennsylvania Food Bank Warns Of Canned Mandarin Orange Recall

A Pennsylvania food bank is sending out a warning about a bad batch of canned Mandarin oranges that may have been shipped out from their facility.

One lot of Imperial Choice Mandarin Oranges is being recalled because of the possiblity of damaged cans and spoiled fruit.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is helping Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank officials spread the word about a voluntary recall of one lot of Imperial Choice Mandarin Oranges Broken Segments in Light Syrup.

No illnesses have been reported, but food bank officials said some of the cans from that lot may bulge, leak or burst open. Because the food could be spoiled, anyone who has the product should throw it out, officials said.

The recall only affects cans marked with code 4200/01029, officials said. The cans may have been distributed to the food bank's network of food pantries in southwestern Pennsylvania from August 2015 through January 2016, officials said.

It was also distributed at Produce to People distributions in Allegheny Valley, Butler, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, McKeesport, Sheraden, Southside, Washington and West Greene and through emergency aid boxes provided to people visiting the food bank's facility in Duquesne, Pa.

Any food pantries with this product should remove it and contact the food bank, officials said. The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, a member of Feeding America, distributes to more than 400 partner pantries in 11 counties in southwestern Pennsylvania.
