PELHAM, N.Y. -- For children and teens interested in film making, when school is out, The Picture House camps in Pelham might be the ticket to keep them entertained this summer.

The Picture House Regional Film Center will once again be offering week-long summer camps for students entering kindergarten through 12th grade and this year will be adding new film programs including a documentary intensive for high school students and a special effects class for students entering third through fifth grades.

Several different camps are being offered for various age groups:

  • Flip This Fairytale for Grades 3-5, July 11-15, 9 a.m to noon, $375. In this camp, students will choose and re-write a classic story to fit our modern sensibilities. They will then learn about basic filmmaking techniques and collaborate as directors and actors to create a short film based on their class script.
  • Green Screen Adventures for Grades 3-5, July 18-22, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., $375. This camp is designed with special effects in mind! Join us in front of our green screen in our Satellite Film Lab where students will create their own adventure stories with special effects and graphics.
  • Music Video and Movie Making for Grades K-2, July 25-29, 9 noon, $375. This camp is all about imagination, inspiration and lots of fun! Students will learn how big-budget music videos are made and will use that as inspiration to visualize a concept for their own music video. After storyboarding, directing and starring in their music video.
  • Documentary Intensive for Grades 10-12, July 25-29, noon to 4 p.m., $500. This class will provide students with the opportunity to produce a short, documentary film from inception to completion. Starting with research on our chosen charity, students will then learn about interviewing techniques, lighting, sound, cinematography and editing as they collaborate to make a documentary film highlighting County Harvest, and how it serves our community.
