Peekskill Students Talk Jobs at Middle School Career Fair

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. — You're never too young to start thinking about your career. That's what students at Peekskill Middle School learned Friday morning at a career fair.

"The program is an opportunity to bring all ages together," Board of Education Trustee Tuesday McDonald said. "We believe that in Peekskill, if you're not a part of the solution, you're part of the problem. I reached out to my colleagues in Peekskill and throughout Westchester to come talk to children about careers and what they need to be doing now, even as early as the middle school."

The event was organized by McDonald as part of her work with Communities For All Ages, a program sponsored and funded by the United Way and the Helen Andrus Benedict Foundation.

McDonald said she was delighted by the great turnout from professionals in all different lines of work.

"You have a district attorney, you have a facilities director, you have an IBM engineer, you have Assemblywoman Sandy Galef and Councilman Darren Rigger and Kathy Talbot, you have Hudson Valley Bake, you have day care providers ... the list goes on and on."

School board president Joseph Urbanowicz took part, talking about his job as facilities manager of the Ardsley School District. He said he was impressed with the enthusiasm students showed toward learning about jobs.

"It's kind of energizing being around the kids and seeing their interest and the direction that they have already at this age," Urbanowicz said.
