Before the final primary results were in on Thursday, U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney's opponent in the 18th Congressional District, offered his reaction.

James "Jimmy" O'Donnell, a Republican seeking to unseat the Democratic incumbent from Cold Spring, said:

“We already knew that whatever tonight’s results brought in, Sean Maloney made clear that the people of the 18th Congressional District were his last priority."

Maloney finished third in a four-way primary race for state Attorney General, with 25 percent, as reported here by Daily Voice.

An aide to Maloney was asked to comment, but did not provide one on Friday, Sept. 14.

The 18th District includes all of Orange County and Putnam County, as well as parts of southern Dutchess County and northeastern Westchester County.

"After spending millions of his congressional campaign funds on his Attorney General race, Maloney’s poor showing in the primary will mean he is forced into his backup plan of running for Congress, but the die is already cast on him abandoning his district," O'Donnell said.

"The people of the Hudson Valley deserve a representative who is 100 percent committed to representing their needs, not those of New York City liberals," O'Donnell said.

O'Donnell is a former member of the state police, serving 23 years from trooper to Lieutenant Colonel. He also served for five years as Chief of Police of the MTA.
