A LaGrange family was left homeless after a two-alarm blaze ripped through their Johnson Road residence.

The blaze was first reported around 4:30 a.m. Friday, March 15 at 27 Johnson Road, in LaGrange, said LaGrange Fire Chief Barry Ward.

The first call reported that people might be trapped inside the home, but a call from responding Dutchess County Sheriff's deputies reported that all five family members had escaped safely and that heavy fire was showing from the rear of the home, Ward said.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, firefighters found that the "heavy fire" had moved to the house and a group of trees beside the home.

LaGrange crews went to work with both an interior and exterior attack of the fire, gaining control of the fire within about 40 minutes, the chief said.

The back section of the home was destroyed and the entire residence was considered a total.

The Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross was on the scene to provide emergency aid to the family who was displaced from their home.

Ward said no firefighters were injured.
