A 17-year-old girl was severely injured after losing control of a motorcycle she was driving.

The crash took place around 3:25 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14 in Dutchess on Manor Road in the town of Red Hook, said the Red Hook Police Department on Facebook.

When Red Hook officers arrived on the scene they located the 17-year-old female semiconscious and suffering from serious injuries from the crash.

The girl was transported to Northern Dutchess Hospital by Northern Dutchess Paramedics where it was determined she suffered two broken femurs and had a serious head injury, the department said.

She was then transported to Westchester Medical Center where she underwent surgery and was listed in stable but serious condition.

An investigation found that the girl was northbound on Manor Road on a 1974 Honda motorcycle when due to unsafe speed and rider inexperience she lost control of the motorcycle causing her to strike a fire hydrant and a tree, the department said.

The girl was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Red Hook Police were assisted on scene by the New York State Police, Red Hook Fire Company, and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
