Man Nabbed For Allegedly Shoplifting More Than $1.8K In Merchandise From Macy's

Town of Poughkeepsie Police arrested a 19-year-old man for allegedly stealing more than $1.000 worth of merchandise from a Macy's.

Elija M. Collins, of Troy, was arrested on Friday, May 17, after officers were called to the store at 2001 South Road, about a shoplifter who left the store and fled in a vehicle, said Town of Poughkeepsie Police Capt. Kevin Faber.

Responding officers located Collins' vehicle on Route 9 and upon stopping it, they allegedly found more than $1,000 worth of stolen merchandise from the store on the rear passenger seat, Faber said. 

Upon a further investigation, police determined he had also allegedly stolen more than $850 worth of merchandise from the same store on April 20, Faber added.

Collins was charged with felony grand larceny and petit larceny. He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $2,000 cash/$4,000 bond.
