Man Charged In Thefts From Walgreens In Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – A 29-year-old Cortlandt Manor man was accused of stealing about $1,800 worth of makeup on two occasions from the Walgreens Pharmacy in the 1200 block of Main Street, Peekskill police said.

Steven Strang was arrested at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, on Main Street by Police Officer Orlita Simmons. He was charged with two counts of petty larceny, a misdemeanor, in thefts that occurred on July 27 and 30.

Police said employees of the store were watching for Strang after they reviewed surveillance tapes and observed the thefts. When he entered the store on July 31, they called the police. Strang fled when confronted by the store manager, police said, and was apprehended by Simmons in the 1100 block of Main Street.

Police estimated the value of the stolen makeup at $1,800. Strang was held for arraignment in Peekskill City Court.

Drug Possession: Lonnie Scott, 41, of Peekskill was arrested at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in the 300 block of Nelson Avenue by Police Officer Matt Basso and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Basso stopped a vehicle that Scott was riding in and found him to be in possession of a small amount of crack cocaine, according to police. The driver of the vehicle was issued a summons for a vehicle and traffic offense and was released. Scott was held for arraignment in City Court.

DWI: Eva Rem, 60, of Peekskill was arrested at 3:40 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, in the 1100 block of Main Street by Police Officer John Kolesar. Rem was charged with driving while intoxicated after being seen behind the wheel of her car in a parking lot while intoxicated, police said. Rem refused to submit to a chemical test to determine her blood alcohol concentration, police said, and was released on her own recognizance. She is to appear in City Court.
