Man Caught With 170 Bags Of Heroin In Traffic Stop, Police Say

A 23-year-old man has been charged after police say he was caught with 170 bags of heroin during a traffic stop in Ulster County.

New York State Police Troop F Community Stabilization Unit officers say they conducted a traffic stop after observing the driver commit an infraction on Thursday, May 16.

Further investigation revealed that the driver, identified as Tyrell Wood, 23, of Poughkeepsie, was in possession of approximately 170 bags of heroin, according to police.

Police say the bags contained approximately 5.1 grams of heroin.

Wood was arrested, processed and arraigned in the Town of Lloyd. He faces the following charges:

  • Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class B felony
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class C felony

Wood was remanded to the Ulster County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.
