A 23-year-old man is behind bars after he allegedly pulled a gun out and demanded a woman get into his car as he attempted to abduct her on the side of a busy roadway in Northern Westchester, Westchester County Police said.

Cortlandt Manor resident Kyle Gregg was arrested on Monday night, Jan. 7  following an investigation into allegations from the woman who alleged that he attempted to abduct her at gunpoint.

According to police, shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, the woman was walking southbound on North Bedford Road (Route 117) in Mount Kisco when Gregg pulled up alongside her near the Bedford town line. Gregg offered the woman a ride, which she refused.

Police said that shortly thereafter, farther south on the roadway, Gregg again stopped next to the woman, demanding that she get into the car. When she again refused, Gregg pointed a handgun at her and demanded that she get in the vehicle. The woman ran away, and the driver fled the scene, prompting an investigation.

Westchester County Police detectives, working with the department’s Real Time Crime Center, determined that the suspect's vehicle had out-of-state plates and was possibly a rental car. Further investigation led to the identification of the driver, and detectives looked for him in Cortlandt in the following days.

At approximately 4:40 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, a deputy sheriff from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department spotted Gregg’s suspected vehicle in the vicinity of Oregon Corners at the Cortlandt-Putnam Valley town line, prompting a traffic stop. Westchester County Police detectives were called to the scene and Gregg was taken into custody, and a .22-caliber handgun was seized.

Gregg was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a weapon with a defaced serial number, both felonies, and menacing, a misdemeanor. Gregg is currently being held and is scheduled to appear in Mount Kisco Justice Court on Tuesday, Jan. 8 for arraignment.

“I commend our detectives for their work in bringing this case to a fast and successful conclusion,” Westchester County Police Commissioner Thomas Gleason stated. “I would also like to thank the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department for its assistance in locating the suspect.”
