What's Happening This Week in Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, NY -- There's plenty to do this Independence Day week in and around the city.

Monday, July 2

  • Children's Series: Mario the Magician: 7-8 p.m. Mario brings his own special brand of magic to Riverfront Green Park. In the case of inclement weather, this show will be moved indoors to the Ford Administration Building at 1031 Elm St.

Tuesday, July 3

  • Peekskill City School District Board of Education Reorganization Meeting: 1 p.m. The meeting will start at 1 p.m. but an anticipated executive session will begin at 1:15 p.m. The public session is expected to resume at 2 p.m. Ford Adminstration Building, 1031 Elm St.

Wednesday, July 4

  • Peekskill Fourth of July Parade: 10 a.m. The annual parade will make its way through the city with the usual patriotic display. More information on the parade route can be found in last week's preview article.
  • Peekskill Riverfront Concert Series: 7 p.m. Join Peekskill Recreation this Fourth of July with the "down and dirty" blues and funk of Black Dirt. Riverfront Green Park, Admission is free.
  • Peekskill Fourth of July Fireworks: 9:30 p.m. The show will begin after the concert in Riverfront Green Park ends.

Thursday, July 5

  • BeanRunner Cafe Poetry Project: 6-9 p.m. From 6 -6:45 p.m. there will be a  poetry writing workshop by poets Ibrahim Siddiq, and Jamal Spann. Then from 7 -9 p.m. there will be  poetry open mic hosted by Chance, with featured poets to be announced. Workship and open mic free and open to the public. 201 South Division St.

Friday, July 6

  • The Hahnbone Band at 12 Grapes: 9:30 p.m.. to 12:30 a.m. World-class musicians perform renditions from artists like Otis Redding, Joe Cocker, Teddy Pendergrass, Stevie Wonder & Ray Charles and bands like Santana, Steely Dan, Cream and Allman Brothers. Admission is a $10 entertainment fee or $5 with a dinner entree. 12 N. Division St.
  • Orlando Marin at BeanRunner Cafe: 7:30-10:30 p.m. Orlando Marin, a contemporary of such greats as Tito Puente, Machito, and Tito Rodriguez, is the only orchestra leader from New York?s golden era of mambo who still performs regularly.Admission is $10. 201 South Division St.
  • Chris Issac at The Paramount: 8 p.m. Don't miss Chris Isaak performing songs from his new album, as well as his classics, for one night only. Tickets are $55-75. The Paramount Center for the Arts is at 1008 Brown St.
