PEEKSKILL, N.Y. The teenage boy who lost consciousness in the Depew Park Veterans Memorial Pool last weekend died after being taken off life support Sunday evening.
Jared Amory, 15, of White Plains, had snuck into the closed pool after around 10 p.m. on June 30 with three Peekskill teens to swim but was unable to stay afloat. The other teens called 911 for help and Amory was taken to Hudson Valley Hospital Center and later Westchester Medical Center for treatment. He never gained consciousness.
An examiner at Westchester Medical Examiners Office said that doctors proceeded with organ harvesting for possible donation some time Sunday evening before his body was turned over to the Medical Examiners office at 11:50 p.m. An autopsy is currently being performed, according to the office.
Peekskill police have ruled out foul play in Amorys death, and no charges have been filed against the three Peekskill teens that accompanied him into the locked pool area.
