Ronan Tynan To Give Peekskill Benefit Concert

PEEKSKILL -- World renowned Irish Tenor Ronan Tynan will perform a special benefit concert next month for the Peekskill Fire Department’s Sam Oitice Heroes Remembered Memorial.

Tynan’s singing gained the attention of many at the funeral of President Ronald Reagan in the summer of 2004, when an international television audience of more than 35 million heard him sing “Amazing Grace” and Schubert’s “Ave Maria,” at the personal invitation of Nancy Reagan.

Ronan’s ability to simultaneously console and inspire is well-documented. In the aftermath of Sept. 11 his singing softened the sorrow for the families and friends of the fallen New York City Firefighters, Port Authority Police Officers and New York City Police Officers.

Ronan is also well-known for his performances of “God Bless America” at Yankee Stadium during the seventh-inning stretch, which he says have been nothing short of unforgettable. In 2006 he started following the Buffalo Sabres hockey team and has performed "God Bless America" at many of their games as well.

In the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, Ronan performed at many benefit concerts and memorial services for New York’s Finest and Bravest, where his singing softened the sorrow of many in the wake of the tragedy. Among the benefits is the Sam Oitice Heroes Remembered Memorial, which is located in Riverfront Green Park.

The statue is named for Sam Oitice of Peekskill, a New York City Firefighter who died in the Sept. 11 attacks. Tynan has performed several concerts to help pay for the monument. Tynan will perform at the Paramount Center for the Arts on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online at www.paramountcenter.org.
