PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Take Our Daughters And Son To Work Day received a thumbs up in Peekskill.

Thursday, April 24, marked the 21st year of Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day, an activity that is recommended for kids ages eight to 18 years old.

According to the official website for the day, more than 37 million youth participated in the day last year. Originally called the Take Our Daughters to Work Program and founded by Gloria Steinem and the Ms. Foundation for Women in 1993, it expanded to include boys in 2003.

In Peekskill, Jo Ann Brody, an artist, said her kids used to always be in her studio while she was working.

"They had no choice," Brody said. "But neither of them turned out to be artists."

Brody said she thought the idea was fabulous and said it helps demystify to kids what their parents do and where they go all day.

Livia Strauss got to experience take your granddaughter to work day as her granddaughter visited her at Hudson Valley Center For Contemporary Art in Peekskill.

"It was great," Strauss said. "She brought her whole class here and they had a very good time. We learned about colors."

Jeffrey Schrier said if it was around when he was working, he would've taken his kids to work.

"I think it's a great idea," Schrier said. "A lot of offices now offer day care so your kids are close by which is great."
