PEEKSKILL -- Hudson Avenue is closed between Smith Street & South Street due to a water main break that is being repaired by the Peekskill Department of Public Works. It is not known when the road will be reopened at this time. The water main broke during Friday evening's heavy rainfall, causing heavy flooding in the area.
"We had an 18 inch stormline and a 15 inch stormline both clay, that blew out," said Peekskill Public Works Highway Foreman Greg Rich.
Rich had said the west side of the road would be open by the end of the day Saturday and that the eastern side of the road would take significantly longer to fix, but as of Sunday afternoon both sides of the street remained closed.
"We're going to have to pull the old asphalt off because the water got between the two layers of asphalt,"Rich said. "We're going to start working on ot monday. This road was scheduled for paving so that will help us out."
There was some minor damage to Lower Main and Water Streets reported by police but nothing serious, Rich said.
