According to police, on Thursday, Feb. 14, a man from the Bronx walked into the Mount Vernon police headquarters, telling officers that he had suffered burns on his hand helping to make a pressure cooker-type bomb with his cousin in the city.

The incident came several weeks after a suspicious package forced the evacuation of Mount Vernon City Hall, followed by a suspicious fire that was started in the Buildings Department.

Police investigated claims of the reported bomb, evacuating a North Eighth Avenue building as a precaution. It was ultimately determined that there was no bomb or threat, and the man was in need of mental and emotion support. He’s been transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
