Shawn P. Cummings, of Saugerties, was arrested on Sunday, Dec. 1, after Saugerties Police responded to a report of domestic violence, Chief Joseph Sinagra said.

Cummings was arrested following an investigation into the domestic dispute during which Cummings allegedly placed his hands around the neck of the victim, and squeezed his hands, obstructing the victim’s ability to breath, the chief said.

Cummings had also kicked the victim multiple times while she was laying on the ground.

He was charged with attempted assault and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and released on his own recognizance.

An order of protection was issued for the victim.
