PEEKSKILL, NY This weekend marks the annual tradition known as Homecoming at Peekskill High School, and district Athletic Director Lou Panzanaro said the weekend will be a busy one.
Friday is school spirit day, he said. Theyve been having different types of activities all weekend long, such as various class competitions, and there will be a pep rally in gym at the end of the day where theyll announce the results of the competitions.
There will also be a homecoming dance Friday night at the high school cafeteria, and the Homecoming king and queen will be announced at the pep rally earlier that day.
On Saturday, the festivities will begin early with a sports carnival for young children from 9 a.m. to noon at Torpey Field. Its a great opportunity to introduce children to new sports, such as lacrosse and track before they get to the high school, Panzanaro said.
Almost all our coaches are going to be out there to provide fun activities for all the youth of Peekskill, said Panzanaro.
At 1:30 p.m. the varsity football game will begin, with the Peekskill High School Red Devils looking to end their winless streak with a victory against the Pelham Memorial High School Pelicans.
There will be a concession stand run by the Peekskill PTO at the game and the district will be selling old athletic uniforms and gear to the public.
At halftime theyll have the Homecoming king and queen presented and the band will play, Panzanaro said.
Panzanaro recommends parking in the lower park entrances on Union Avenue, such as the lot behind the pool, but visitors can also walk down from the high school parking lots.
