Peekskill, N.Y. Residents came out this weekend for a free community barbecue hosted by New York State Senator Greg Ball at the Summit of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.
The Sunday cookout, which was open to the public, was a chance for Ball to meet face-to-face with his constituents and to share his love of Peekskill, he said.
Everybody loves food, and I love Peekskill, Ball said. This is a great city and a critical part of our larger community and I figured, what better way to get to know the people of Peekskill and beyond than with a BBQ.
Among those who came out to enjoy the delicious roasted pork, jerk chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs on a sunny afternoon were Peekskill Mayor Mary Foster, Westchester County District 1 Legislator John Testa and Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Reverend Dr. Adolphus Lacey.
"It was a great day for the community to have the current senator come forth and hangout with the people, Lacey said. Ever since I have been around this has never happened before. There was good food and fellowship."
