PEEKSKILL, N.Y. This year's memorial service for the victims of the Fleischmann's Yeast fire in Peekskill will be held on the deadly blaze's anniversary, Wednesday, Aug. 1.
Seven firefighters lost their lives in the fire Aug. 1, 1918, which destroyed a large grain warehouse belonging to the Fleischmann Manufacturing Co.
The officers and members of Centennial Hose and Cortlandt Hook & Ladder Companies will hold their annual memorial service Aug. 1 at 7 p.m.
This year's service will take place at the Firemen's Memorial Park at Charles Point on John Walsh Boulevard. Refreshments will be at the Cortlandt Hook & Ladder station at 828 Main St. immediately after the ceremony.
