The wildly popular K104.7 Cupcake Festival, which has been held on Main Street in Fishkill for all of its five-year history, is moving to Beacon this year and will be held Saturday, May 6, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Fishkill residents have already started to voice their displeasure on Facebook group pages about losing one of the best events of the year.

Daily Voice has learned that when K104 made this year's request for the venue, Fishkill Village Police requested a change of site - as an alternative to closing down Main Street. The police dept. recommended Taylor Park as a spot to hold the festival, but the radio station declined the recommendation and withdrew their request.

Beacon was only too happy to provide a stage for the event and will host the festival on its own Main Street.

"The opportunity presented itself to continue to grow the event in Beacon," Sam Favata, Marketing, and Events Director for K104 told Daily Voice. "We're happy to continue to have the event. We had over 4,000 people last year.

"We absolutely love the event," Favata added. "It brings together the best bakeries, vendors, local stores... it's developed into a fun, family event, and it's a highlight for our radio event season."

Favata was asked if K104 had a message to Fishkill residents who aren't thrilled about losing the festival. "We hope you will join us as we continue to grow the event and bring out the best sweets and treats and vendors the Hudson Valley has to offer to our listeners," he said.

The festival began because of a promotion the station still offers: on Friday mornings on the Woodman in the Morning show, the station holds a 'best cupcake' contest - open to pros or amateurs. The segment runs the month prior to the festival. The winner will be named at 3 p.m. the day of the festival, and awarded a $1,000 dollar check.
