What To Do In Peekskill This Weekend

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- There is plenty to do in Peekskill this weekend, especially if you love art and live music. Visit our Events page for more to do.

Friday, Oct. 5

“Viva Pinocho!:" 6:30 p.m. The Peekskill EMBARK Performing and Literary Arts Festival kicks off with a performance of “Viva Pinocho!" and an appearance by Magician Margaret Steele. Admission for the public is $20 for adults and $10 for children and seniors. Peekskill Middle School, 212 Ringgold St.

Conjunto Sazon: 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. The band, a small conjunto with a huge sound, identifies with the rhythms and melodies of the Caribbean - Salsa, Son, Rumba, Bomba, Plena and Merengue. Admission is $10. BeanRunner Cafe, 201 S. Division St.

EMBARK Opening Festival Party: 8:30 p.m. Enjoy jazz from Mary Crescenzo and friends and poetry from Antonia's South Street Poets. Admission is $5. For a complete listing of events for this year's festival, go to the Peekskill EMBARK website. Energy Movement Center, 925 South St.

Saturday, Oct. 6

Peekskill Schools Sports Carnival: 10 a.m. to noon. A free carnival shows students all of the sports that are available in the Peekskill schools, such as track and field, lacrosse, soccer and baseball. Torpey Field.

The Bean Runner Jazz Project: 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. A night of jazz favorites, handpicked by the players themselves, features the music of Monk, Coltrane, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers among others. Admission is $10. BeanRunner Cafe, 201 S. Division St.

Steven Wright-Mark CD Release Party: 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. "My Plastic World" is musician Steven Wright-Mark's third solo CD, which has just been released on Amplifrier Music. Admission is a $10 entertainment fee or $5 with dinner entree. 12 Grapes, 12 N. Division St.

Sunday, Oct. 7

Peekskill EMBARK Outdoor Finale Concert: 5 p.m. The final event in this year's festival is a concert, which is free and open to the public. North Division Street, which will be closed to traffic.

Kids' Open Mic Night: 6 to 8 p.m. A monthly open mic showcase for musicians and singers ages 17 and under. Bring your guitar, bass, sax, flute or whatever instrument you play. The venue has a drum kit, keyboard, guitar, bass amps and microphones. Admission is free. Sign-up begins at 5:30 p.m. 12 Grapes, 12 N. Division St.
