Brice, a freshman guard, was named to the All-Independent Women’s Basketball first team, and also nabbed Player and Rookie of the Year honors.
A native of Lexington Park, Md., Brice averaged an Association-best 22.3 points per game as a freshman. The three-time AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month and four-time AD3I Player of the Week was second in AD3I in total points and steals and was third in free throw shooting, according to a release from the College of New Rochelle.
“I didn’t even know someone could receive both Rookie and Player of the Year!” said Brice. “My first year at CNR was one to remember. The older girls on the team were great leaders and kept me grounded throughout the season and played a major role in my success.”
Schenkel, a freshman forward, was named to the All-Independent Men’s Basketball first team. The Sayville, N.Y., native was also named the Rookie of the Year after averaging 18.6 points per game on the year, the release said.
“I feel truly blessed for the opportunity to represent the College of New Rochelle not just athletically but with honor and integrity,” said Schenkel. “I can’t take all the credit for these accomplishments; my coaches and teammates put me in a position to succeed every day.”
John “Jay” Butler, director of athletics and the Wellness Center at CNR, shared his thoughts on the two young athletes.
“We are so proud of the accomplishments Dar’Neisha and Hunter achieved in their first year at CNR,” said Butler. “Both of them excelled on the court while offering amazing maturity as leaders on their respective teams. We look forward to their continued growth and development as they lead the Blue Angels in the future.”
