Ossining Volleyball Overcomes Fox Lane In Five

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Ossining did something Wednesday that not many volleyball teams can do when playing at Fox Lane, walked out with a win.

Ossining overcame a charging Fox Lane 25-19, 25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 25-22 in a Section 1 match.

Fox Lane had the momentum going into the fifth and deciding game, but Ossining, led by the hitting of Saniya Chong, Madison Strippoli and Kathryn Polletta, prevailed.

Ossining improved to 8-2 on the season. The victory surpassed the win total for the 2011 season.

“We came from behind in almost every game, including being behind 8-1 in the beginning,” Ossining first-year coach Lauren Riccardi said. “The girls pulled it together and would not take a loss in game five.”

Chong paced Ossining with 28 kills. She finished with 15 digs and six service aces. Strippoli added 10 kills and Polletta had nine. Setter Katharine Baskind registered 44 assists and libero Selena Drinks had 24 digs.

“We had some great defense from Selena and Katie Baskind was very aggressive on defense and did a great job setting all five games,” Riccardi said.
