OSSINING, N.Y. -- First Steps/Primeros Pasos kicked off the new school year with an event featuring singalongs and a performance of Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" on Sept. 25.
“It’s a really great program. Every Friday is something different,” said Beatrice Aiduenu-Murphy, a parent volunteer. Aiduenu-Murphy's 2 and a half year-old son, Emmanuel is in First Steps, and her older sons, now 7 and 4, also went through the program.
First Steps/Primeros Pasos emphasizes literacy for children from birth to age 3 and is open to the community every Friday.
“Studies show that early education is critical in children’s development and serves them well both academically and socially for years to come,” said Schools Superintendent Raymond Sanchez. “We are grateful to First Steps/Primeros Pasos for providing such a valuable service to the community.”
