OSSINING, N.Y. – With 100 percent of Rockland County precincts reporting and 83 percent of Westchester County precincts reporting, Sen. David Carlucci (D-Rockland) has won the state Senate seat for New York's new 38th District.

Democratic incumbent and Rockland native Sen. David Carlucci received 68,926 votes Tuesday while Republican challenger and former Ossining village trustee and Deputy Mayor Janis Castaldi received 28,709 votes. The newly redrawn 38th District encompasses the towns of Ramapo, Clarkstown and Orangetown in Rockland County. Ossining remains the only municipality in Westchester County also in the district.

"I look forward to another two years in Albany," Carlucci said, adding that he looked forward to doing as much as he could.

Carlucci said he was encouraged by the large turnout, especially in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

"It just shows the resiliency of the people of the Hudson Valley," he said. "They fought their way to the polls."

During her campaign, Castaldi consistently challenged Carlucci’s stance on taxes and regulation.

“The theme of my campaign and of my life in business and public service has been simple: voices heard, promises kept,” Castaldi wrote in response to a questionnaire from The Daily Voice. “My opponent campaigned in 2010 on three main pledges: mandate relief, pension reform, and independent redistricting. He has broken every pledge. Good government groups give Mr. Carlucci a failing grade on mandate relief.”
