OSSINING, N.Y. -- The Ossining Police Department lowered its flags to half-staff in honor of Peace Officer Memorial Day on Sunday.
This day of remembrance, signed into law by President John F. Kennedy on Oct. 1, 1962, is an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made each year by protectors of the community who lost their lives in the line of duty. Among others, the Ossining Police Department asks that residents remember Officers Gerow Birdsall and James Fagan, for whom the building is named.
