OSSINING, N.Y. An Ossining man accused of coming at police officers with a steak knife was taken into custody Tuesday night, Village of Ossining Police said.
Police responding to a report of a fight on Broad Avenue recognized 21-year-old Ollie Holmes walking away from the altercation carrying a steak knife, police said. Officers told Holmes to stop and drop the knife, but he refused, said Lt. Mike McElroy.
Instead of stopping or dropping the knife, he proceeded to come in the officers direction, McElroy said. They ordered him again to drop the knife, and he didnt. When he got close enough they disarmed him at considerable risk to themselves, obviously. They wouldve been authorized to use deadly force under those circumstances.
Holmes was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
