Of the 2,683 signatures submitted, 1,049 signatures were rejected, leaving 1,634 valid signatures, below the 2,146 signatures needed to force a referendum. The village will be discussing the matter at Wednesday's work session at 86-88 Spring Street
In a letter sent to Chamber President Gayle Marchica, Village Clerk Mary Ann Roberts cited several irregularities with the petitions.
Many of the people who signed the petition were not registered to vote in the Village of Ossining, Roberts said. Other signers did not sign with their full names, Roberts said. None of the sheets provided to the village included the signer's election district, Roberts said.
The roundabout would be funded via a $500,000 bond at the intersection of Main, Spring and Brandeth Streets and Central Avenue.
The chamber has feared a roundabout would negatively impact local businesses. Three former mayors, Miguel Hernandez, John Perillo and William Hanauer oppose the roundabout.
Mayor Victoria Gearity said the intersection needs to be brought up to current safety standards.
