River Day, Clam Bake For Weekend Around Ossining

OSSINING, N.Y. – Live music, canoeing and an Indian culture celebration are some of the activities planned for this weekend. Scattered thunderstorms are predicted for Saturday and Sunday so bring some rain gear!


Ossining Waterfront Concert, 7:30 p.m.

Teri Lamar and New Company will perform music of yesterday and today, including pop, soft rock, oldies, dance, R&B and Motown. Show is at the Louis Engel Waterfront Park stage. If it rains, the venue will be moved to the Ossining Public Library auditorium.

Yonkers Jazz and Blues at Dusk, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Rio, Brazil native Luis Simas will perform at the Yonkers Amphitheater, 71 Water Grant St., as part of Yonkers' free outdoor summer concert series.

Big Band on the Boardwalk, 7:30 p.m.

Milt Gerver and his orchestra will play Big Band music on the Playland Park boardwalk in Rye. Admission is free, parking fees apply.

Caramoor's Jazz Festival, 8 p.m. Friday – 1 p.m. Sunday

Three-day jazz festival at Caramoor Center for the Music and Arts, 149 Girdle Ridge Rd. in Katonah, will feature virtuoso bassist Christian McBride and his band, Jason Moran with his trio, pianist Renee Rosnes, and more. Tickets cost $33 - $57.


Plein Air Paint Out and Live Auction, 3:30 p.m.

About 50 artists from all around the Hudson Valley will paint, photograph and build sculptures at or around the Shattemuc Yacht Club in Ossining. At 5 p.m., art will be auctioned off.

Summer on the Farm at Stone Barns, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture will engage families in farm activities including hands-on farm chores, a farm market, tastings, plantings, scavenger hunts and more.


Ossining Boat & Canoe Club's Annual Clam Bake, 12 p.m.

Lots of food, including a raw clam bar, steamers, mussels, fried fish, hot dogs, burgers, salads, barbeque chicken, ribs, sausage and peppers, corn on the cob, pork shoulder, greens and beverages. Tickets purchased in advance through a committee or board member cost $30 for adults, $10 for children 6 – 12 years old. Children five and under enter free. On the day of the event, tickets cost $40 for adults, $20 for children 6 – 12, and $10 for children five and under.

Canoe the Croton, 10 a.m.

Paddle up the Croton River, against the tide, through the high cliffs and get away from it all without going very far. Canoeing experience is necessary. Meet at the Croton Boat Ramp or at Teatown Lake Reservation. Two person limit per boat. Cost is $15 per person.

River Day at Van Cortlandt Manor, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Live music, kayak demonstrations, brick making, blacksmithing and wood-sawing are some of the activities that take place to celebrate the history and ecology of the Hudson River. Cost is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $6 for children 5 – 17 and free for children under five. Van Cortlandt Manor is located at 525 South Riverside Ave. in Croton-on-Hudson.

Heritage of India Festival, 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Celebrate the sights, sounds and flavors of India with Indian food, live music, folk dancing, children's rides, Indian clothing and jewelry and a fashion show. Festival will be held at the Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. Admission and parking are free.
