OSSINING, N.Y. John Codman III, chairman of the Village of Ossining's Comprehensive Committee, has been chosen to fill a village trustee position that opened last month when trustee Janis Castaldi resigned.
"My decision to apply was at the encouragement of my friends in the community," said Codman in an email. "I have been involved in making Ossining a better place. I love it here. We have a community rich in history and culture. I am giving back to the community that gives me so much every day."
As head of the Comprehensive Committee, Codman spent four years helping prepare the Comprehensive Plan which is a roadmap for the village's future physical and economic development.
"We got a total of six applications and two were withdrawn before the interview process ended," said Ossining Village Mayor William Hanauer. "John was chosen because he had the most experience as a volunteer in the village. He was the chair of the Comprehensive Committee so he had an edge over the others by the time we finished the interviews."
Codman has also served recently as the chairman of the Village of Ossining's Waterfront Vision Committee.
Codman's trustee term will expire on Dec. 31, 2012, the date when Castaldi's term would have expired. His seat will be up for election in November 2012.
