Mobile Shredder, Leaf Pickup Top Briarcliff Village Manager's Report

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- The Westchester County mobile shredder's return to the village on Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. will be in a changed location, according to Briarcliff Manor Village Manager Philip Zegarelli's latest report.

The location will be farther south on Van Lu Van Road, between the youth center and Atria, where there will be two lines of cars set up.

Residents can bring up to four file-size boxes of confidential papers per household. 

Binder clips and covers must be removed.

Not accepted: Business, institutional or commercial papers, junk mail, magazines and newspapers, Zegarelli said.

In other village news:

The Department of Public Works has begun its fall pickup. Crews work on the west side working easterly and on the east side working westerly.

The department anticipates three loops of the entire village, each taking about two weeks.

The library offers Mindfulness Program for Adults on Thursday at 7 p.m. The program covers awareness that results in better self-modulation of attention, emotions and behavior, tools to help increase focus, flexible thinking, efficiency, resilience, compassion and general well-being. 

Voice actor Alan Sklar will read from Lawrence Block's "Hilliard's Ceremony" at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Preschool Storytime (3- and 4-year-olds with caregivers) is Thursdays through Thanksgiving at 10:30 a.m.

Crazy 8s Math Club (grades one and two) will build glow-in-the-dark structures Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Nov. 6, 13, 15, 22 and 29. Tennis court season has ended. All-weather courts, Chilmark courts 3 and 4 and Law court 4, will remain open throughout the fall.

Platform tennis has begun. Permits are required at the recreation office by mail or online here.

Registration has begun for youth basketball and floor hockey programs. Basketball programs are available for boys and girls in grades one-six, while floor hockey is open to boys and girls in grades two-six.
