A man has finally admitted to strangling a woman to death and leaving her body wrapped in a blanket alongside a parkway in Westchester County nearly 20 years ago.

Florida resident Christopher Gonzalez, age 41, pleaded guilty to the 2005 murder of Yonkers resident Angel Serbay on Wednesday, Jan. 18, according to Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah.

Gonzalez murdered Serbay on Sept. 3, 2005, when he strangled the 25-year-old to death and left her body wrapped in a blanket on the shoulder of the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh just north of the Jackson Road overpass, where it was then found and reported to state police.

The murder went unsolved for more than a decade afterward until state police were able to forensically link Serbay's death to a homicide in the Bronx from 2000. Gonzalez's DNA linked him to both killings, and he was arrested in Naples, Florida on Nov. 7, 2017, by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

He was then extradited to New York and has been held by the New York City Department of Corrections since.

Gonzalez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was promised a sentence of 20 years to life in state prison. He will be sentenced on Friday, Feb. 24.

"No matter how long it takes, we will never give up on trying to solve open cold case homicides in Westchester County. Now after 18 years, Angel Serbay’s family has the closure they deserve," Rocah said of the case.
