I am an Ossining resident who spends much of her time traveling the globe and
observing the function of other cultures. Much of the travel is by car, giving me
endless insights on yes, among other things, Roundabouts!
When I am home, especially in my wonderful Ossining village, I cannot help but
reflect on all of the differences I observe and experience in my travels. Perhaps
this is why the response to the proposed Roundabout seems so ludicrous and
I have viewed the videos and shared them with many of my worldly friends.
We all agree, it’s a brilliant design.
It’s modern, it’s green, it’s efficient and safe!
In honor of our recent march for Science in Washington D.C., I feel it might be
fitting to examine the safety data that seems to be so contentious here.
The necessary evidence and detail of the much feared Roundabout can be found
in the first thirty minutes of the online video of Community meeting 4 6 2017.
Not to mention, an incredibly embarrassing and disrespectful interruption by a
male audience member while our Mayor made her own professional presentation
after having clearly stated that everyone would have their chance to be heard.
In regards to the “overnight engineers” who predict doomsday destruction of our
down-town, the design is thoughtful and beautiful, and will improve a sloppy and
yes, dangerous situation.
I understand the apprehension to this drastic change, but after almost getting
t-boned by a speeding driver while taking a legal right on red off of Spring a few
weeks back with a child in the car, I am woke!
The science of this project clearly outweighs the trite arguments that have arisen
in this not-so-civil discussion. What a shame if these shrill and uninformed sounds
result in a lesser version of our sweet little downtown.
The Village Board and our stalwart and caring Mayor have my absolute support in
this important moment, and I hope they can stay the course with this project.
