OSSINING, N.Y. – In honor of Flag Day 2013, Westchester residents can drop off aged, torn or damaged U.S. flags at the district office of State Sen. David Carlucci (D-Ossining) to ensure they are retired in an official flag retirement ceremony.
Carlucci's office will distribute flags throughout American Legion Posts and VFW Halls in his district that perform official ceremonies.
"Our American Flag is a proud symbol that reminds all of us of our cherished national pastime and those who fought to defend it since our nation's birth," Carlucci said in a statement. "This program, which I begun as a town clerk, provides the chance for residents to show their respect by retiring each one in a respectful and deserving manner."
This year's Flag Day commemorates the 238th birthday of the U.S. Army.
Carlucci’s Westchester office is located at 2 Church Street, Ossining.
Additionally, Briarcliff's Boy Scout Troop 18 will hold a flag retirement ceremony at Law Park at 6 p.m. on Friday.
