The incident took place in Dutchess County in the Town of Poughkeepsie in the Arlington Business District around 2 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1.

The fire was first reported around 2 a.m. when a resident of the apartment house located on Main Street called to report smoke coming from the first floor.

A town of Poughkeepsie police officer arrived on the scene and reported a fire at Tony's Pizza Pit, multiple published reports said.

Arlington Fire District firefighters arrived minutes later and confirmed a large blaze coming from the rear of the pizza shop and the building engulfed in flames.

Smoke was also coming from a four-unit apartment building located next door to the pizza shop.

Mutual aid was called for from numerous fire departments as the flames grew and firefighters had to move out of the building due to a potential building collapse.

As of 11 a.m., firefighters were still on the scene and the town of Poughkeepsie Police is asking the public to avoid the areas of Raymond Avenue and Main Street as crews operate.
