OSSINING N.Y. -- Alex Carrazzone, a 13-year-old incoming freshman at Ossining High School and member of the Spartans swim team, has spent his summer running, swimming and biking in triathlons and raising more than $1,200 for Pets Alive Westchester in the process.

When his friend and well-known radio personality Caroline Corley from for 107.1 The Peak died suddenly in 2013, he wanted to do something meaningful in her memory.

Carrazzone began racing in triathlons three summers ago when a family friend introduced him to the sport. The ToughMan Triathlon series, hosts of the ToughKids events which he currently competes in, helps support local communities through the ToughMan Community Fund.

Introduced this year, the program provides race participants (athletes, volunteers and race staff) an opportunity to support a charitable organization by fundraising while they participate in the 2014 Westchester ToughMan/ToughKids Race Event Weekend. Carrazzone has chosen Pets Alive of Westchester as his charity partner. Corley's dog, Mick Jagger, was adopted from the Pets Alive shelter in Elmsford, after being rescued and relocated from the Louisiana area following Hurricane Katrina.

Corley's listeners knew the special bond she shared with her beloved Mick, and how highly she spoke of Pets Alive for giving her a special partner.  The ToughKids event which consists of a 200-meter swim, a four-mile bike and a one-mile run will take place at Croton Point Park on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Donations can be made by going to the website and search for Carrazzone's name.
