“Now is the time to honor our past, celebrate the present and build our future,” said Bicentennial Committee Chair George Camp. “We are thrilled to be partnering with a number of fantastic organizations to make this a truly special, enriching celebration not only for our community, but for the entire region.”

April 2 will mark Ossining's 200th year as a village -- it was incorporated on April 2, 1813. On that date, Ossining became the first village in the county to be incorporated in the state-charter.

On that day this year, Ossining will hold a special kick-off event at Budarz Theater at the Ossining Public Library. Paintings and photographs that capture 200 years of Ossining's people, landmarks and local treasures will be on display. Mayor William Hanauer and Ossining Historical Society member John Wunderlich are scheduled to speak at the kickoff event, which will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The event will also open a six-month long outdoor art exhibit, titled "Ossining in 3D", which will feature sculptures in place at Ossining's historic sites and waterfront areas.

“As one of the oldest historic villages on the Hudson River, Ossining is filled with a number of architectural gems,” said Camp. “The sculpture exhibit enhances our Village’s existing beauty, natural and man-made, with new works of art that are also rich in meaning.”

Ossining will host various events throughout spring, summer and fall to commemorate its 200th anniversary. These events include the Ossining Village Fair, movies on the waterfront, a best pizza in Ossining competition and a summer concert series.
