The students joined Carlucci in support of the senator's proposal for interest free college loans, said a statement.

Students speakers at the meeting shared their opinion on how they, or their families, plan to pay for college.

College graduates in New York State are strapped with an average $26,000 debt, according to Carlucci's office.

Through $500 million dollars secured through the bank settlement last year the senator proposes keeping college affordable and to invest in the future of New York State, said the statement.

Loans would be granted to first-time undergraduate students who finish in the top five of their high school class with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
