Ryan Buonauro, 23, of East Meadow, was arrested around 9:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, after the Hempstead Police attempted to stop a suspicious red pickup truck in Merrick, said the Nassau County Police.

According to detectives, when the Hempstead Police Department determined the vehicle had been reported stolen and attempted to conduct a stop, the vehicle fled in a "reckless manner."

While fleeing Buonauro struck a 2007 Toyota 4runner that was stopped at a stop sign on Fenimore Avenue in Uniondale, injuring the operator, police said.

Buonauro continued fleeing and a short while later Nassau County Police Officers located the stolen vehicle on Merokee Drive in Merrick.

After a brief investigation, officers located Buonauro, police said.

Following his arrest, detectives determined that he was also responsible for a larceny from another vehicle that occurred on Dec. 21, 2019, in Bellmore.

The operator of the 4runner suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Buonauro was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, leaving the scene of an incident with injury, petit larceny, aggravated driving without a license, reckless driving and numerous traffic violations.
