PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- Pearl River resident Mary M. (Murray) Bateman died on Thursday, Jan. 14. She was 84.
She was born in the Bronx in 1931 to Mae and Patrick Murray.
Bateman was a champion Irish step dancer in her youth. She earned numerous medals while performing and competing in various feiseanna including the first Irish Feis held in Chicago in 1945.
She began her career at R.H. Donnelley before moving to Pearl River where she was a teacher’s assistant at St. Margaret’s School for more than 25 years and later worked at Insurance Services Office.
Bateman is survived by her children Coleen Reeves of Pine Bush, Kathleen Clair of Pine Bush, Janeen McDonald of Glen Rock, N.J., and James of Pearl River; grandchildren Ryan Reeves, Kelly Reeves Kosteczko, Janeen Clair McConnell, Conor Clair, Fiona McDonald, Killeen McDonald, Keeley Bateman, Cadet Brenden Bateman and Patrick Bateman; great-grandchildren Braeden McConnell and Angelina Mary Reeves; and brother John Murray of North Carolina.
She was predeceased by her husband, James P. Bateman.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at St. Margaret’s Church, in Pearl River. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, in Hawthorne. Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
