SPARKILL, N.Y. -- Frances DeMaio, 101, of Sparkill, died Thursday, Oct. 13.
She was born Oct. 1, 1915. She lived in Piermont for most of her adult life, spending the last 19 years at Thorpe Village in Sparkill.
She worked for 10 years at the New York Telephone Company. Following that, she and her husband began a successful business, Leech’s Marina in Piermont, which lasted 20 years. In 1997, she received an honorary high school diploma from Park Ridge High School since she had to leave school in 1930 to help support her family during the Great Depression.
She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Piermont for 63 years and the Senior Citizens Club of Piermont for more than 50 years. She is survived by her children, Linda (Peter) Kelly-Kirwan and Donald (Jane) DeMaio; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Angelo DeMaio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church, 120 Kings Highway, Tappan with burial to follow at Saint Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet. Viewing will be from 2:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hannemann Funeral Home Inc., 88 S. Broadway, Nyack.
