This comes after Gatwick and Heathrow airports in the United Kingdom had flights delayed because of reported drone sightings.
Incoming flights were able to land at Newark Airport until 5:45 p.m., but flights bound for Newark were held up at other airports for a short time. The longest reported delays were about 15 minutes..
As with the overseas airports, there was no conclusive evidence that what was seen were drones.
“Two drones at once. In the dark. At 3500 feet altitude,” wrote Brendan Schulman, the vice-president of policy and legal affairs at DJI, which makes flying and camera stabilization systems. “It’s very cold outside, below freezing; not the kind of weather for flying drones. This is just not credible.”
“Despite the lack of evidence, new sightings have been reported at more airports, raising the prospect that new reports are being spurred by publicity from past incidents,” a story on DJI.com early Tuesday evening said.
“Plenty of drone sightings turn out to be something else – a bat, a balloon, even a plastic bag,” the report says.
Previous reports have also turned out to be a plastic bag and even a bat.
