Step Back In Time During Colonial Day In Tappan

TAPPAN, N.Y. -- The Tappantown Historical Society is inviting people to "step back in time" Saturday, Sept. 24 during Colonial Day.

Now in its 32nd year, Colonial Day - a free event - features Colonial Army re-enactors, encampment soldiers, colonial singers and dancers and others performing the everyday tasks of colonial America.

Some historical re-enactors will be perform quilting, embroidery and lacemaking while others will be working as blacksmiths, woodworkers, coopers and soap makers.

Some will be in the DeWint House, performing the tasks essential to a colonial family preparing for the coming winter. Re-enactors will be apple pressing, stenciling, candle-dipping, spinning and butter making. They'll also make aprons and write with quill pens. Tours of the Carriage House Museum will also be available featuring farm animals and a sheep shearer.

Colonial Day is scheduled for 12-5 p.m. at the DeWint House at Oak Tree Road and Livingston Street. To learn more, find the Tappan Historical Society online.
