ORANGETOWN, N.Y. – Rockland foodies, get ready to enjoy some upscale Mexican street food and mean margaritas – Nyack may be getting a bartaco.
The restaurant, which serves fresh tacos filled with everything from baja fish and spicy chorizo to cauliflower and Portobello mushrooms, has been talking with Nyack officials about taking over The River Club, a village-owned restaurant on the edge of the Hudson.
The River Club closed its doors last fall after a 30-year run as Nyack's only waterfront eatery.
According to a Sunday, Oct. 9 post on the village’s Facebook page, it has been negotiating with bartaco’s parent company, the Barteca Restaurant Group, which is based in Norwalk, Conn.
According to Barteca’s website, it has locations in Port Chester in New York, Stamford, West Hartford and Westport in Connecticut and six other spots in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia.
Bartaco also serves rotisserie chicken, rice bowls topped with pork belly, duck and shrimp “banh mi” salads and sides, such as fresh pineapple and grilled corn.
According to a report by lohud.com, Nyack’s mayor, Jen White recently confirmed the village and restaurant chain are talking.
She told lohud.com a bartaco would be a key part of Nyack’s hopes for a more vital waterfront.
