Edgar Gordon, 53, was charged Wednesday with criminal contempt, aggravated family offense, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment after the woman walked into the Hyde Park Police Department to report the attack, police said.
The unidentified woman told police that Gordon, whom she has an order of protection against, followed her and her daughter on Route 9 and confronted her when stopped in a parking lot. The argument escalated when he began to scream at the woman and then punched her, police reported.
Officers tracked down Gordon on Farm Lane, where he tried to provide a false name to avoid arrest, according to police. He is being held at the Dutchess County Jail on $50,000 cash bond or $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, police said.
