The murder of Clinton Elting, 18, of the city of Poughkeepsie, was discovered on July 22, 1987, when state police found his remains on the roadside brush off Cardinal Road in Hyde Park, said Trooper AJ Hicks.

Police believe the murder took place on July 18, 1987, the same night Rodney Pittmen “Dula,” was shot and wounded in the town of Poughkeepsie.

Elting’s death was ruled a homicide with several gunshot wounds found to the victim’s head.

Events leading up to the murder of Elting began in the city of Poughkeepsie, and resulted in his murder in Hyde Park, state police said.

Elting was found wearing matching Bermuda flower pattern shorts and shirt containing bright red, violet, black, green, and white in the pattern. He also was wearing black sneakers with white laces.

The State Police continue to ask for the public’s assistance to solve this homicide and bring peace to Clinton and his family, Hicks said.
